Details of experience
I am a first time mum and had my dream homebirth at 40+6 weeks. I broke my waters overnight then went into labour in the morning. My midwife was there the whole day for me. I spent most of the labour in the shower alone. I had a large bloody show and a constant lower abdominal pain but my midwives were confident in keeping me at home. As a midwife myself I know that I could have been transferred in for this with a less experienced birth team. My midwives trusted me and the normal physiology of birth. When I started to involuntarily push I called my parter and they moved me into the bedroom. I pushed for 40mins and my daughter was born into my partners arms. She latched to the breast soon after birth and we never had any issues breastfeeding. I birthed my placenta 2 hours after birth, again in hospital I would have had intervention for this but my midwives trusted the process and my body to deliver it when it was ready. I didn’t tear or have any significant blood loss. The best part was showering and going to bed with my partner and baby after the most magical day of our lives and never having to leave home or disrupt the amazing journey that is birth
